Well, well, well. It’s been a long hiatus. But, I doubt that any one of you could forget the ending of the last episode. Julie Plec and friends just love to set heart-breaking murders to Christmas carols, don’t they?
Or do they?
1. Cami isn’t quite as dead as we thought.
2. Aurora is the worst kind of manipulative AND crazy. (See #1)
3. There was a lot of discussion about Cami making the choice to die instead of becoming a vampire. Only for her to make the exact opposite choice at the end of the episode.
4. Mr Awesome Scruff – who was a little less scruffy this week – got to show his Badassery off in this scene, reminding us that the Original family is a serious force to be reckoned with:
5. Klaus, when bent on revenge, is amazing to behold. As is his over-protective streak.
6. “Death dances silently in everyone’s shadow,” says Klaus. And, unfortunately, it comes out and dances on Jackson.
He sees his own death coming when he’s captured beside her, wounded badly, and pumped full of Wolfsbane, and his “goodbye” speech to Hayley even got this cold-hearted one teary. Hayley’s response to his being killed in front of her is heart-wrenching. And her goodbye to him is just as painful. (But, Haylijah fans? Don’t think this means we’ll get our happy ending. I fully see this working the opposite way. But, will most likely lead to more long, intense stares, which is fine by me.)
7. Elijah is, once again, the voice of reason to Klaus’s impulsivity. The brothers may still be at odds, in some ways, but they are family. And Elijah proves that in this episode.
8. Vincent owes Elijah his life. But that doesn’t make them friends.
9. Freya cast a boundary spell for Klaus to keep Cami safe while he goes to rescue Hayley.
Freya later lets Cami out of said boundary spell, asking Cami to help her out before she dies. Cami’s “in-between-ness” (before she makes the choice she spends the entire episode saying she won’t) actually helps out in trapping Tristan in a wonderful glamour of a twist.
10. Tristan makes the best plans, but, as with all CW villians he underestimates the heroes. (See #9)
11. The moment when Tristan realizes he’s trapped is very well played by Oliver Ackland.
12. Hayley gets the last word with Tristan.
13. Cami makes Vincent her first meal, officially becoming a vampire.
BONUS: Aurora isn’t where Klaus left her. Freya suggests she was either aided by a witch or “someone with access to Dark Objects” leading Klaus to believe that Lucien may be responsible.
BONUS x 2: Jackson’s funeral is one that you need to see for yourself. (And, yes, Elijah is there supporting her.)
Given the previews for tomorrow night’s episode, I think Cami’s change will be . . . interesting.
Will Cami completely lose herself as a vampire? Will she keep up the Closet of Dark Objects? If she doesn’t, what happens to them? What about Marcel and the Strix? What will Lucien do with Aurora?
