We are going to leave this post open. We’ll be posting more from coverage from the press room and Q&A panel at SDCC here as it is released. So far we’ve got scoop from THR, EW and Zap2It.

Via THR – The Originals Season 3 to Focus on Sire Lines:

What’s theme of The Originals this year?

If season two was about the return of the parents and the brothers, and this notion of your family coming back and haunting you, and all of the problems of the bloodline, this is definitely the season about the sire lines. We are going to meet some of the people who, in their early days as vampires, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Klaus and Rebekah turned. We’re going to see the first time someone was turned into a vampire. We’re going to see what life was like for the Mikaelson siblings, not long after Esther turned them; not long after Klaus killed his mother, not long after they went on the run from their father, Mikael (Sebastian Roché). And then we will see what that family legacy begat as they interacted with other people and more and more people started to be turned into vampires. That will be our backstory and flashback story.

Via EW – Who are the new big bads of The Originals?

“We talked a lot about how the Mikaelsons have been around for 1,000 years and somewhere along the way, they probably turned a bunch of people into vampires,” executive producer Michael Narducci teased at Comic-Con on Friday. “Those vampires know that if an Original dies, as we saw with Finn and we saw with Kol, an entire sire line would be wiped off. What perspective do those sired vampires have — all of them, the remaining three sire lines — what do they think about the continued existence of the Mikaelson family? That’s the seed for season 3.”

Based on a scene that was shot for the finale, but went unused until they showed it off at Comic-Con, those vampires are not happy. “The Mikaelsons were able to vanquish their parents and their evil nasty auntie, so now they get to experience what it’s like to be the so-called parents themselves of their first line of sired vampires. The children are coming to town with an axe to grind,” executive producer Julie Plec added.

Via Zap2It – A ‘The Vampire Diaries’ crossover isn’t likely.

Sadly, it’s probably going to take a while. Executive producer Julie Plec admits she’s a fan of crossovers, but that doesn’t mean it’s feasible for the two shows.

“I often feel sometimes, for serialized shows … I feel like what would happen if we did a crossover there would be a lot of back story, a lot of catch up, then they’d have to part ways again,” executive producer Michael Narducci says. “No matter what we do with a crossover, it wouldn’t live up to the expectations.”

That doesn’t mean it isn’t going to happen, though. With “The Originals” and “The Vampire Diaries” sharing a night, it seems like a given. As for Narducci, he’s just waiting for Plec to make the call. After all, she’s the one watching over both shows and the upcoming “Containment,” which Narducci also wouldn’t be surprised to see worked into the show’s mythology.
