Previously on The Originals . . . We’re reminded that Jackson wants to take Hope, Hayley, and the rest of the pack and hide in the Bayou. NewBekah reminds us that the body she’s in is still linked to Davina and the rest of the witch children that Eva kidnapped, which is why she’s going to be sticking around in this body for a while. Dahlia reminds us that Hope is “rightfully mine” and that she truly is evil when she kills Aiden, and makes it look as though a wolf – namely Klaus – killed him. Jackson brings in Aiden’s body, and tells everyone that Klaus killed Aiden – which Klaus doesn’t deny. Elijah and Klaus have a bit of a falling out . . . and Elijah plunges the Davina-and-Koleb-worked-golden-dagger into Klaus’s heart.
Dahlia is doing some very witchy-looking stuff, while she also does the voice-over to start the episode. “We define ourselves by our family. {We see Klaus, lying dessicated.} From birth, we share their names, entrust them to protect that which we hold most dear. {Hayley, Hope, and Jackson look on as some wolf-underlings unload Aiden’s body from an SUV.} We value them above all others . . . {Josh walks into his apartment, and finds a note left him by Aiden – his heartbreak evident.} . . . and yet inevitably, we are forced apart. {Davina chants over a bowl} Promises are made then left unkept. {Freya looks out of the bell tower.” Children in particular turn their backs on those who raised them seeking lives of their own. {Dahlia puts her hands in what looks to be a bowl of blood.} The bond of family is not a bond forged by choice. In fact, some would see family as a terrible burden. {Klaus again.}”
Klaus wakes up, thinking Dahlia has invaded his mind as he lays dessicated. However, she has brought him into hers. Since he’s kinda trapped there, he kinda has to listen to what she has to say. She says that she has a proposition for him and, after a moment, he follows her down a path.
Klaus, impatient as ever, demands to know what she wants. After a couple of attempts, Dahlia gets him to be quiet enough to do what she wants him to . . . listen. The village they stand in is being attacked. Esther and Dahlia run and hide behind a wheelbarrow as “the Vikings” attack the people of their village. Dahlia tells the frightened Esther that she will protect them, as long as they stay together, “always and forever.” The girls begin to hum and a Viking comes tearing through, and tries to rip the girls apart. Dahlia attacks him with her magic, but while she is distracted with that two others throw bags over their heads and capture them.
Klaus surmises that the Vikings slaughtered the entire village. Dahlia confirms that the only survivors were herself and her sister. Dahlia brings up “always and forever” again, and Klaus rankles at the idea that they may be “kindreds” in any sort of way. Dahlia says that that isn’t her aim, but she does think that they could, perhaps, be allies. Klaus considers this for a moment.
In the Quarter, Elijah has evidently told Freya that Hayley, and therefore Hope, have left the city. Freya is in panic mode, and tells him that they must come back. Elijah tells her that they are safe, they will return when Dahlia has been defeated. Freya, in typical over-dramatic fashion, says that nowhere is safe from Dahlia and there’s no way to draw Dahlia to them without Hope. Elijah asks her to explain. Freya reminds us of the elements that cause Dahlia to be vulnerable (sacred soil, the ash of a fallen Viking, and the blood of the witch that broke her heart – Freya’s own) and says that she will use these things to create a “killing ground” where, when Dahlia enters this space, she will be rendered mortal once again. Freya says the only way to lure her there is with Hope. Elijah is not having the whole “use the baby as bait” thing and thinks that it is very convenient that Freya mentions this now that Klaus has been taken out of the picture. {Because, surely, Klaus would have ripped Freya’s head from her shoulders for even suggesting that.} Elijah still can’t believe that Freya thinks he’d put Hope in such danger. Freya reminds him of the “life” Hope will have, if Dahlia has her way. Elijah reminds her that if they do manage to kill Dahlia, she herself will be free, too, and tells her to not “insult my intelligence by painting your actions as selfless.” Freya says that if Elijah won’t bring Hope there, she’ll do it herself because “there is no other way.”
NewBekah is complaining about being drug into the No Magic Nightclub while all the action is going down. She tells Marcel that Elijah needs her. Marcel argues that Elijah can’t worry about keeping Hope AND her safe at the same time. NewBekah tries to leave anyway, but Marcel then reminds us of what NewBekah reminded us of in the beginning – she’s still linked to Davina and the other witch children, so if she gets hurt, so do they. {And we alllllllllllllllllllllll know how much Marcel HATES children getting hurt.} NewBekah resents living “like a porcelain doll” and hates that she has no idea how to do the spell that would UNlink her from the children. Just then, one of Marcel’s Merry Men drag Vincent into the club and Marcel says that’s why. Vincent says that this kind of Dark Magic is tricky, but he knows how to do it. But he won’t do it. He wants NewBekah to do it. He wants to help the kids, but after that he’s done with magic. Marcel says fine, get it done, and then he leaves.
At Rousseau’s, Cami is working when Elijah comes in. She’s, apparently, left him several voice mails. She asks if he’s spoken to Klaus, and Elijah admits that he did, briefly, before he “put him to sleep with a dagger.” Cami is horrified. She tells Elijah that Klaus didn’t kill Aiden. She says he just “took the blame because of some insane dictator edict about making people fear him.” Elijah looks as though he believes Cami, but admits that if Klaus was still standing, the wolf army sworn to protect her would be in a state of revolt. Cami wants Elijah to wake Klaus up, Elijah accuses her of letting her feelings for him cloud her judgement. Elijah claims that while he and Cami were in Arkansas, and she was counselling him, he got to see inside her head too. He knows that she’s in love with Klaus, and he tells her as much. Cami asks how long Elijah plans on keeping Klaus daggered. “Til Hope is safe” is Elijah’s response, but he needs her help.
Jackson is hammering a make-shift headstone into the ground in front of a wooden coffin. The initials on the headstone are A. L. and there’s a crescent moon underneath them. Hayley walks up with Hope and says that Elijah called, saying that Freya was starting locator spells to try and find them and they need to move . . . now. Then she realizes that Jackson plans to bury Aiden in the “murderers and traitors” graveyard and is horrified at the thought.
Hayley reminds him that Aiden died loyal to the pack, in fact, that’s what she thinks got him killed. {NOPE!} Jackson feels as though he doesn’t have a choice, because they can’t carry his body around forever, and they need to stay on the move. Hayley says that if they expect the wolves to fight for Hope, they need to know that their lives matter to herself and Jackson. She says that they’ll take Aiden “down river, give him a true Crescent funeral” because too much has been taken from the pack already, she won’t have this taken from them too. Jackson pulls up the headstone and tosses it away.
Vincent is looking through what appears to be a spellbook. NewBekah is looking through records, complaining that there is no jazz at this jazz club. Vincent is annoyed by her prattling on. Elijah barges in saying they have a few more things to worry about, with Cami close on his heels, carrying a load of Dark Objects. “Because, apparently, now I’m a dispensary,” she says. Elijah tells them that Klaus’s mistrust of Freya wasn’t all paranoia because she wants to use Hope to lure Dahlia, and that’s not ok with anyone. “And I assume you told her she’s out of her lunatic mind,” is NewBekah’s eloquent response. Elijah says that he has an idea, since Hope is a beacon that is now cloaked, perhaps there is something else that they could use to lure Dahlia. He thinks that the combined power of all these objects could create some sort of decoy for her. Vincent seems to be trying to sneak away, and Mr Awesome Scruff calls him on it. He doesn’t want any part of all this. He agreed to help NewBekah get unlinked, but nothing else. Elijah whooshes in front of Vincent, and tries to convince Vincent that he needs to stay and help. It doesn’t work, and Vincent tries again to leave. This time he gets slammed up against the wall by his throat for his trouble. Cami calls Elijah off, saying that she’ll call Davina – she’s bound to be willing to help. Elijah releases Vincent, who skulks away, and then he reminds them that Dahlia demanded the baby at nightfall, so they don’t have much time.
Josh is packing, and comes across Aiden’s shirt. After holding it briefly – and smelling it – Marcel questions whether or not Josh really wants to leave. Josh asks what else Marcel thinks he’s going to do, zips up his bag, and then throws it. Josh says that he can’t call his family, because “they suck,” he can’t get revenge on Klaus because Klaus is already in a coffin and it would be suicide anyway, and asks Marcel what else there is for him to do. Marcel says that he’s not there with an assignment for Josh, he’s just there for Josh. Josh tells Marcel that they were going to leave town, and that he feels he spent Aiden’s last day on earth saying “goodbye” to everyone but Aiden. He starts to cry when he says that he didn’t even get to say goodbye to Aiden.
A breeze blows across Klaus’s prone body, and we’re taken back into the realms of Dahlia’s head and the story she’s weaving for him. They are now in the small room where Dahlia spent her days while she and Esther were being held captive by the Vikings. The door opens, and a Viking man throws Dahlia to the floor. She scrambles up, and begins to perform a ritual that apparently the Vikings demanded in order for Esther to not suffer in the ways that she had. Esther enjoyed quite a bit more freedom thanks to Dahlia’s efforts, but Dahlia said she never resented Esther for it because they had made a promise. Klaus wonders if she’s telling him this to garner his sympathy because no “ancient plight will ever justify your intention to enslave my daughter.” Dahlia says that their “plights” are actually the same. Esther walks in again, clearly smitten with a Viking man, named Mikael. Dahlia says that she has something to show Esther – “potent sage soaked in serpent’s blood” – that will give them strength to escape so that they can live, together, forever. Esther tells her sister to stop, that she no longer wants to practice magic. Dahlia says that magic is the only thing that has kept them alive, but Esther believes that Mikael will protect her now. Dahlia looks horrified as Esther tells her that she and Mikael plan to marry and start a family. “I am your family,” Dahlia stresses. Esther says that they will always be sisters, but she wants children of her own, and says that she’s in love with Mikael. Esther goes to leave, but Dahlia pulls her back, wanting to sing their song, but Esther isn’t having it and storms out. Klaus looks on, as Dahlia comes apart.
Cami and Davina are looking through all of Cami’s notes that she’s made about each of the Dark Objects her family has been storing for all these years. She’s done quite a good job of cataloging everything. NewBekah is looking around as Davina teases Cami about being a little OCD about all this stuff. Cami says that its her family’s legacy and she’s realizing that she can’t escape it. NewBekah snarks that unless there’s something in there about mimicking a “hybrid baby” they’re in big trouble. NewBekah notices a table covered with a cloth and rips the cloth back as Davina tells her not to touch it. NewBekah demands to know why there are dead chicken on the table, and what Davina’s been up to. Davina says that its part of the resurrection spell she’s been trying to do for Kol and then snarks at NewBekah for not remembering that she swore to save him. As NewBekah starts to defend herself, she realizes something . . . when Kol was trying to work out how NOT to die, he was using “representational magic” and tried to transfer the curse into a clay doll, “a golem” and pulls a doll from the shelf. Davina says that NewBekah is right, if they can find a way to replicate Hope’s power, they could transfer it into a doll, and POOF they have their decoy.
The Pack, with Hayley, Hope, and Jackson in their midst are walking with Aiden’s coffin in the woods. Hayley asks if this was where they used to run when they were cursed, and Jackson tells her that he didn’t only run them then, he ran them when he was a kid. They talk a little about being kids with the wolf gene – angry – and Hayley can relate. She says that triggering the curse actually settled her down a bit. Jackson said he just got worse, because when he triggered his curse, he also triggered the curse that kept him in his wolf form, except on the night of the full moon. He says that one full moon their alpha didn’t show up, and he had to step up and take over the role. That was what calmed him down, at least for a little while. Hope begins to cry and Hayley says that she needs to go feed her. Jackson says there’s a hideout a little ways away, and tells her to grab a few guys and head that way, he’ll make sure she’s covered.
“So Esther was cruel. You’ll excuse my complete lack of surprise. Seems it does run in the family,” Klaus says to Dahlia as she fawns over her younger self. She complains that Esther abandoned her for the very people that killed everyone they knew and took them captive. She says she was abandoned just like he’s been, and says that, like him, she’s been “unjustly painted as the villain of the story.” Klaus watches as young Dahlia throws things about in anger, and then tells Dahlia if she plans to propose some sort of compromise, she should start by finding his body and undagger it. She says that she has the means to do just that, but she isn’t quite finished with her story. Klaus says that he doesn’t care about Esther. Dahlia says that the thing she wants to show him next, isn’t about his mother, but about his daughter “and if you have any chance to save her from what is to come, I suggest you listen” she says.
Dahlia takes Klaus to a different location – but one that looks very much like the Bayou – to show him a little something about the first born children of the Mikaelson line. She says again that she did not “enslave Freya,” saying that she protected her from people who “abused our craft, demonized us, and, most importantly, I shielded her from herself.” Freya walks into the scene, throws something on the fire, and then uses her powers to make it flare up. Dahlia comes out of the hut and scolds Freya for going “past the stream” and the two of them argue – Freya complaining that Dahlia is keeping her from other people, and Dahlia saying that people will fear her because they don’t understand her. Freya screams that she hates this place, and as she screams more of the same, we see her start to lose control over her magic. Dahlia tries to calm her, but the wind begins whipping around them, Freya screams, and her nose begins to bleed. As Freya begins coughing up blood, she seems panicked that she can’t stop the magic. The only thing that seems to calm her, is singing with her aunt – the same tune that the sisters used to hum together.
Klaus seems to understand the depth of what was just shown him, and asks if Freya was really out of control. Dahlia confirms his fears, “firstbborn witches in this bloodline possess devastating power.” And he asks if this is what’s to come for Hope. Dahlia says that it will be worse, since “Hope’s magic will be tainted with your vampire blood as well as the aggressive wolf temperament.” Dahlia claims that she’s the only one that can teach Hope to manage her magic, or it will grow out of control. Dahlia says that Hope will lash out at everyone, destroy the city of NOLA, and then “her terror will spread far beyond.” She says that she was the first born as well, which is why she knew how to save Freya from herself, and will know how to help Hope. She tells Klaus that he’s seen this now, he must understand that he needs her help. Klaus considers this, looking afraid.
Elijah stands over Klaus’s dessicated body and Marcel walks into the room. Marcel makes some snide remark about Elijah missing his brother, and Elijah confesses that he knows that Klaus did not kill Aiden. Marcel asks who did, and Elijah surmises, “Freya, Dahlia, any number of witches with a desire to turn me against my brother.” {Doesn’t really narrow it down, dude.} Marcel asks if, given that information, Elijah is thinking of pulling that dagger out. Mr Awesome Scruff shakes his head no, and explains that he doesn’t plan to remove it until Hope is safe. Marcel concludes that whoever did kill Aiden managed to get them to put their biggest weapon against Dahlia down, saying that that means . . . Elijah is going to have to think like Klaus. Elijah looks a little concerned.
Cami walks, with purpose, into the Cemetery carrying a drink caddy full of coffee. Vincent stops her, teasing that she’s become the go-fer for the Mikaelsons. “Its brain fuel. They’re struggling in there. Things are catching fire that aren’t supposed to. They’re going through Dark Objects like carzy. Caffeine is my Hail Mary,” she explains. Vincent hands her the spell that will unlink NewBekah from the children, saying he even included pronunciations for the “baby witch” and that it should be pretty easy to follow. Cami tells him that she thinks things would be better off if he did the spell, saying that he has a gift that he isn’t using. “Magic is not a gift, Cami. In my experience, its a loaded assault rifle with a hair trigger, and I’m putting my gun down,” he says. He tells her that he doesn’t care what anyone says about it, including “the covens.” When Cami asks him about that, he says that Josephine La Rue’s death left a hole in the covens, one filled by what he calls “the regent” that the Ancestors speak through. He tells Cami that they want him to take her place, but “I am done.” Cami tells him that she gets it, that she lost both a brother and an uncle to a hex, and that Davina is trying to save someone she loved because Davina believes in something “bigger than herself” which helps her. She tells him that “magic in the right hands can be a good thing” but he argues that “not my hands, not anymore.” He goes to leave, and Cami tells him that they’re trying to bind things to a golem, but nothing’s working, and asks him for ideas. He explains that no “powerful witch is gonna be fooled by a doll. They need a heartbeat.” He takes the note he had for NewBekah, and scribbles something on it.
Hayley is talking on the phone, confirming what we already know – Klaus didn’t kill Aiden – and Marcel says that he thought she’d want to know. She asks why he’d take the blame, “because he’s stubborn and irresponsible on top of being a bloodthirsty murdering lunatic” she answers herself. Marcel senses she’s frustrated, and she explains that pack morale is pretty low because Jackson is heartbroken and Aiden was their friend. She sees the initials A.L., J.K., and O.R. (Ollie) carved into the shack she’s in, with the date 2005. Marcel says that he understands what its like to be a leader that cares about those that follow her, but says that, right now, she’s a leader at war, and she needs to decide if she’s their leader or their friend, saying she can’t be both. He tells her that Jackson and the pack would die for her, and asks her if she plans on letting them do just that. “If the answer’s yes, you gotta live with that,” Marcel says.
Freya is performing spells up in the Bell Tower, looking for Hope. Elijah appears behind her. She says they are out of time, she’s located Hayley, and she “strongly” advises that he doesn’t stand in her way. As she tries to storm out, Elijah snatches the paper she’s carrying from her hands. He tells Freya that Klaus’s paintings contain Mikael’s ashes and tells her to go to the Compound and get them. She says again that he can’t stop her from getting Hope. He tells her to begin the spell, prepare the battlefield, and he’ll bring Hope to her. When he leaves, Freya looks smug.
Dahlia is still showing Klaus the beginnings of her relationship with Freya. She says again that Hope will need her guidance. Klaus says that he’ll find someone “less hostile” to teach her – “practically anyone would fit that criteria.” She asks if he plans to hold interviews from his coffin, seeing as how he’s still laying in it. She asks him how long Elijah and NewBekah will keep him daggered, how old will Hope be before they remove the dagger. Klaus counters that she’s failed twice to make a family of her own, so she’s taking his. He says “no going to happen, sweetheart.” Dahlia can’t understand why he thinks she wants a family, family has only ever caused her pain. She says she wants power, and she is owed Hope’s, without it she will go back to sleep within the year. Dahlia claims that Freya only turned on her because Dahlia denied her the love of a parent, so she proposes that Klaus remain in Hope’s life (after she gets her from Hayley) as her father while Dahlia tutors her. She says that if he agrees, he will get to raise his daughter, she will channel the power that’s rightfully hers, and she will help Hope hone her craft. She says that with her and Hope by his side, no one would dare test him ever again. And in the lowest of low blows, she says that he could have all that or lie in his coffin until Hope learns to call Jackson “Daddy.” Klaus sets his jaw.
Elijah walks through the forest, and catches both an arrow and an axe before they hit him. As he faces a couple of armed wolves, he says, “Children . . . . please.” Jackson comes flying out of one of the trees, and punches Mr Awesome Scruff. {I was just starting to like you Jackson . . .} Elijah picks himself back up and says that he’s only there to see Hope. Jackson tells him that isn’t going to happen, that one bite from any of them and Elijah is back in hallucinationville. He bears his fangs, and lunges at Elijah, who just kinda eases Jackson out of the way. Elijah reminds Jackson of how hurt he was after taking on Klaus, and asks Jackson if he wants another beating (basically). With the second lowest blow of the episode, Jackson says that Elijah’s different from Klaus because Elijah is waiting for him to die so that Elijah can take his place beside Hayley, and reminds Elijah that Elijah can’t kill him, because Hayley would never forgive him for that.
“And speak of the devil,” Elijah whispers as Hayley runs up behind him, carrying Hope. Hayley warns Elijah that he shouldn’t be there. Without even turning toward her, Elijah tells her that they have come up with another plan – NewBekah and Davina have found a way, if they can replicate Hope’s magic, they can lure Dahlia into a trap where Elijah will kill her himself (he looks meaningfully at Jackson when he says “I’ll kill her myself” which seems like a pretty pointed threat) all they need is Hope’s blood. Hayley considers what he says, Jackson shakes his head slightly “no” but Hayley agrees to give Elijah a vial of Hope’s blood. She says, “I’m trusting you, Elijah,” and Elijah says that as soon as NOLA is safe, she and Hope can return where she belongs . . . “with family.” Jackson is clearly rankled by the idea that he isn’t really Hope’s family.
Dahlia tells Klaus to consider what she’s told him, but she will not ask him twice. “In my experience, an offer from a malevolent witch always comes with a catch. What’s yours?” he asks. Dahlia says that Hope is all Hayley will have, and Hayley will fight them to the end, and in order for her plan to succeed and for them to live in peace, “Hayley will have to be eliminated.” Klaus smiles that tiny little amused, yet evil, smile and says that Dahlia wants him to kill the mother of his child so that Hope will grow to hate him. Dahlia says that Hope is so young that Klaus can tell her whatever he wants about Hayley’s demise and Hope will take it as truth, but he should be secure in the idea that, in doing that, he’s made the right choice for Hope. Dahlia then blows some dust in Klaus’s face, and he drops to the ground. Only to open his dessicated eyes in his coffin a second later, gasping, and then beginning to UN-dessicate, the dagger still lodged in his chest. After a moment, Klaus begins to remove the dagger from his chest. {Does this mean Dahlia negated the magic in it??? Hmmmmmm}
Jackson plays with Hope in her travel crib. Hayley comes in and tells him that the pack is gathering for the funeral, they’re waiting for him. She asks him about the initials carved into the wall, and he says that they all used to hang out here, they were like brothers. He tells her that before she came to NOLA, the pack chose him “not just to lead them, but to stand for them.” {Um, didn’t he say earlier that he just stepped up because the Alpha didn’t show up one Full Moon???} He says that they’ve lost too many friends to the Mikaelsons and explains that Elijah expects her to go back to Hope’s family when this is over. He says that he can’t live under Klaus’s roof AND be the Alpha the Crescents deserve. He says that he loves her and Hope, and that he will honor the vows they took, but he needs to know who her family is. He says that if she wants to go back to the Mikaelsons, he can’t go with her. He says that if they really are her family, he has to protect his own. He kisses her on the forehead, and she seems to pull away a bit. He tells her that he’ll give her some time to think, and leaves for the funeral.
The wolves are gathered around Aiden’s body when Jackson joins them at the River’s edge. Hayley walks up beside him and takes his hand, and they kiss. She tells him that she doesn’t need time, she’s spent her entire life looking for her family, and she found him and the pack. She says that they need to “do right by them . . . starting with Aiden.” And then Josh walks up. Hayley says she told Josh where to find them, and the wolves block his path. Jackson tells the wolves to let Josh through, and then greets Josh himself with a handshake.
At the Compound, Freya has Klaus’s paintings surrounding her, and is chanting. Elijah walks up behind her, and she tells him that once the spell is cast, Dahlia will not be able to come inside without becoming mortal. She asks Elijah where Hope is, and he says he wants to know if in using Hope’s power to lure Dahlia, Hope will come to any harm. Freya swears that Dahlia won’t get close enough to hurt Hope. She says that Dahlia won’t be able to hurt “any child ever again.” Elijah whooshes to Freya, and plunges a syringe into her neck. “I do hope that is true,” he says, “You are now the bait.” When she asks him what he’s done to her, he replies simply that he just injected her with Hope’s blood, that Dahlia will now be hunting her. He says that all they needed was a “beating heart, and though I question the purity of your heart’s intent, I hear it beating just fine.” Freya is horrified. She is worried that Dahlia will sense the trick, but Elijah says that NewBekah assured him that this will work, and he trusts NewBekah more than he trusts Freya. Freya tells him that she’s not his enemy, but he remains unconvinced, and tells her to continue with the spell.
In Kol’s hideout, an old record player is playing. Davina is chanting. Vincent interrupts her, saying that he hasn’t seen a spell “like that” in a very long time. He says that its a pretty brave spell for someone so young, “even a Harvest Girl.” He asks her if she’s sure she can do this spell on her own. She says that she doesn’t “remember asking for help.” Vincent agrees that she didn’t, but says that he’s actually there asking for her help. He tells her that the covens need a leader, and they want him to be it, but he doesn’t want to lead. He says the covens are getting pushy about it, so he’s “inclined to offer them with an alternative – someone who’s got Faith, someone – someone that will use the craft to help people and you seem to fit that description pretty well.” She reminds him that she walked away from her coven. He says that he’s talking about a “direct connection to the ancestors from all 9 of the covens” that he’s talking about just about every type of magic out there – even necromancy. (Which is what she really needs to raise Kol, I think we’re to assume.) He tells her that that’s a lot of power, and he says that she’s going to need a lot more power than the diamond is giving her if she wants to bring back Kol. Davina looks like she’s considering this as an option.
Josh is kneeling by Aiden’s body, smiles as he moves a bit of Aiden’s hair off his face, and then kisses him on the forehead while the wolves look on. “I never thought much about the whole immortality part of being a vampire,” he says, “suddenly, forever feels like a really long time.” {And we’re all in tears} Hayley hugs Josh as Jackson covers Aiden with a cloth. Then Josh and Jackson push Aiden’s body out into the River. Jackson tosses a match, and Aiden goes up in flames as he floats away. Hayley stands by Jackson’s side, and Aiden’s little brother walks up beside Josh as they look on. {And I have to credit whoever chose the song here, it was mighty powerful!}
Hayley begins a voice-over that appears to be a voice mail message to Elijah: “Elijah, I’m calling to say goodbye. {She walks into the cabin to check on Hope.} Hope and I, we can’t be part of your family anymore. All Hope’s life, her family has tried to destroy her. {Hope coos from her crib.} That can’t be my little girl’s story. {NewBekah and Elijah are listening.} Family is supposed to love you. Even is she is free of Dahlia’s firstborn curse, Hope would still be Klaus’s daughter. {Klaus struggles to sit, and looks as though he might be able to hear this.} She’d inherit a thousand years of enemies, all his anger and rage. I don’t want Hope to be a Mikaelson. {Klaus is definitely listening.} All the pain that comes with that name, she doesn’t deserve that. {We see Elijah’s phone on the table.} Elijah, {Hayley struggles with emotion} good-bye.” Elijah’s face here breaks my heart. You can, literally, see his breaking. NewBekah tells Elijah that Hayley’s right. Klaus sets his jaw, and leaves.
Dahlia remains in the crypt, her hands still in a bowl of blood as the gate creaks open and Klaus stumbles in. Struggling to hold himself up, he approaches where Dahlia sits. “I knew you were the smartest of your siblings,” she says, “No brute Viking blood in those veins. I’m glad to see you made the right decision.” Klaus claims he never cared for Hayley, but he warns that the rest of his family will stand against them in defense of her. “We will have to go through them,” she says, and asks if Klaus is prepared for that. “They have more than earned everything that is to come,” is Klaus’s response. He falls to the ground in front of her, and tells her that they need to hurry because Hayley is “attempting to flee with my child.” Dahlia tells him not to worry, that she won’t get very far tonight, and stirs some Sage into her bowl of blood.
Hayley, Hope, and Jackson are preparing to move. A clap of thunder scares Hope, and the blood in Dahlia’s bowl swirls with the wind from the storm. Klaus looks on as Dahlia blows on the bowl. Thunder claps again. And Jackson looks worriedly around, bow and arrows at the ready. Dahlia smiles at Klaus, and Klaus does his best wicked, crooked smile back . . . and chills go up my spine.
So, a couple questions. 1) What happened to the golden dagger that put Klaus down? 2) Is it now rendered useless because Dahlia allowed him to pull it free? 3) Will Davina become the next Josephine La Rue? 4) And in doing so, will she be able to bring Kol back? 4) If she does bring Kol back, will she bring him back as Koleb, Kol, or someone completely different? 5) Will Klaus kill Hayley? 6) Is Klaus really on Dahlia’s side now?
All things to ponder for tonight’s new episode!!!
