The Originals: 2.12 “Sanctuary” RECAP! {{SPOILERS}}

originals-recap-212

So, if last week’s flashbacks of Marcel in uniform didn’t do you in – and I hear some of you may not’ve survived the hotness – and you weren’t concerned about Marcel and his Merry Men going missing at the end, you’re doing this fandom thing wrong, guys! But, since we didn’t see much of Not-Rebekah I’m hoping we’ll find out a little more about that well-preserved corpse/ghost/Freya this week! (You gotta help me with this nickname folks, NEW Rebekah doesn’t work for me, NOT Rebekah is confusing some people (no, it IS Rebekah, it just doesn’t LOOK like her, hence the “NOT”), and Rebs-Not-Rebs seems to only make sense to me – I have too many friends named “Rebekah” that I’ve already got a Becky, a Bex, and a Rebekah, so I have one we all call “Rebs” – so HELP!!! Hit me up in the comments, or at @tvdfansonline or @AllisSmith on Twitter!!)

But, anyhow. This week’s episode begins with Hayley reminding us what happened last week. We see Finncent admitting to Marcel that he thinks Klaus and Elijah are hiding something BIG from him, and that he thinks he can torture it out of Marcel. Then Klaus discovers that Marcel and his Merry Men have all gone missing. Hayley meeting Jacksons grandmother, and talking about the “pre-marital rituals” that her and Jackson have to perform – and Mary’s awesome “he speaks the truth, you speak the truth” break down of them – and Klaus saying that he needs to talk to the “bride-to-be” about keeping secrets that aren’t hers to tell. Then we see Rebs-NOT-Rebs (sticking with this one for now) looking in the mirror at her new self, and Cassie (Former host to Esther) realizing who she is (and Rebekah identifying Cassie) and then Rebs-NOT-Rebs asking how one breaks out of the Witch Asylum/Prison. And, since Cassie says it can’t be done . . . I’m guessing Rebs-NOT-Rebs will find a way! We catch a few glimpses of the ghost, and the well-preserved body in the dusty, glass-lidded coffin . . . and we’re off!

originals-recap-212-2

The Witch Asylum/Prison truly does look creepy from the outside, doesn’t it? As we’re treated to that lovely little bit of lighting and dead vines, we’re taken inside, and shown the Scrabble tiles (still spelling out “FREYA”) on the floor of Rebs-NOT-Rebs’s room. She’s dreaming of the locked room where she found the coffin. As the picture tells us magic is being performed, Rebekah gets restless and her room door blows open. In her dream, Rebekah sees the scene where Freya is ripped from Esther’s side by Dahlia as a the figure now standing in her doorway looks on, head cocked on one side.

In the Bayou, wolves are milling around. A young boy is playing with a baseball that gets away from him. A foot stops it, and that foot is attached to Klaus. He’s there, looking for “the hyrbid that calls herself your Queen” and everyone around becomes silent and apparently mute. (Hey, I’m not sure I wouldn’t do the same in the presence of JoMo!) He asks that someone tell him where she is before he gets irritated “after all, there are children present.”

originals-recap-212-4

We see Hayley, skipping rocks out on to the water, and Jackson walks up behind her. He was worried that she’d taken off in the middle of the night. She says she’s just out there thinking. She says that she has a secret she can’t tell him, and she can’t even tell him why she can’t tell him. (Cuz, he has a brain, he could figure it out!) He seems pretty sure that nothing she could say would change anything. Hayley says that it isn’t safe for him to know. Jackson counters that they’ve never been safe, but with this marriage they can make their pack safe for the first time in ages. He gives her a little guilt, but I’ll give him credit because he doesn’t know the gravity of what she’s hiding from him. Jackson tells her that there’s something she should know before she calls off the wedding. Hayley says that his secrets can’t be anywhere near as bad as hers. Jackson counters that there might just be one. And it’s a doozy. It has to do with how her parents died. (UH OH) That gets her attention, for sure.

originals-recap-212-5

Back at the Asylum, a young blonde girl we haven’t seen before sits in front of the television. It sounds like she’s watching cartoons. Rebekah walks in, and finds Cassie sitting at the piano. Rebekah sits down with her, and Cassie says that she heard Rebekah was out “past curfew . . . again.” Rebekah laughs it off, saying that she doesn’t “much care for taking orders.” (At some point in this conversation, the folks who are in charge are referred to as “The Kindred” – that would be the lady orderly, the blonde dude orderly, and the big, burly orderly, I believe.) Rebekah has stolen an apple from the pantry, and gives it to Cassie. Cassie’s terrified of being caught with it, and walks away as Rebekah starts talking about escaping, and tonight. Cassie doesn’t believe she can do it. Rebekah says that any spell can be broken, they just have to channel something strong. Rebekah knows that the girl in the coffin in the locked room is strong, and she wants to channel her to help them get out.

originals-recap-212-6

Rebekah says that she could sense the power coming off that girl “in waves” and she’s never really known what witchcraft feels like. Rebekah says this is surely how they will escape, and offers Cassie the apple again. This time, Cassie takes it. Rebekah and Cassie pass the “new girl at the telly” and Rebekah asks about her. “One more bonkers witch, got dumped here in the middle of the night,” Cassie says. Rebekah approaches New Girl (Freya?) and asks about what’s on.

originals-recap-212-7

New Girl is amazing that “these paintings can move” and goes on to describe what sounds like the old ‘Tom and Jerry’ cartoon – mouse breaking the bones of a “tenacious feline” – and Rebekah teases her about it a bit. Rebekah thinks the girl looks familiar, and asks her about it. New Girl doesn’t answer Rebekah’s inquiry, but takes the apple Rebekah puts in front of her as Rebekah walks away.

(Ok. Hold up. Rebs-NOT-Rebs is totally wearing skin-tight jeans and a close-fitting top with a cardigan. Where in THE WORLD is she hiding all these apples?? Sorry. Stuff like that bugs me!)

originals-recap-212-8

Down at Lafayette Cemetery, Davina wakes up on a couch. Koleb is tinkering nearby, and when she asks how long she was asleep for, Koleb tells her all night. He tells her it was a fitful sleep, though, because she kept muttering about how she was going to kill Klaus. As they’re talking, Koleb seems to be playing with some High School chemistry stuff, lights some sort of gas flame, and picks up one of the silver daggers. Davina asks him if he really knows what he’s doing. He tells her to have a little faith, he has been planning this for over a century. He asks her if she’s having second thoughts – she was the one who wanted to kill Klaus and save her friends – and she says she’s past that. Davina’s phone buzzes, and Koleb tells her its been doing that pretty constantly. Davina goes to get it, and sees that it’s Aiden texting her. He’s telling her that Josh and Marcel have gone missing, and to call him. She tells Koleb that Josh and Marcel are still missing.

originals-recap-212-9

Then we see Marcel . . . in the middle of one of Papa Tunde/Finncent’s circles. In the past (and with his parents) those folks unlucky enough to end up in one of these circles has had something carved into their forehead and looking kinda grey at this point. Well, as we see Marcel, and then Josh, neither is the case. Finncent rambles on about how “the mighty have fallen” and how a little magic has laid them all at his feet. Doesn’t look like he’s channeling them like his parents though, because he starts talking about how hungry they are, and we see a few of them twitch a little. Finncent talks to an unconscious (?) Marcel, saying that he has Marcel to thank for leading them to this point and says that he might still be able to save his Merry Men. Finncent continues talking to Marcel, saying that in 1,000 years Marcel is the closest thing to a friend Klaus has ever had, so he’s got to know what Klaus’s secret is, right?  And he wonders aloud what he has to do to Marcel to get him to reveal that secret to him.

originals-recap-212-10

Mary is chopping up food, when Klaus arrives on her doorstep. When she asks him what he wants, he suggests that she offer him some “common courtesy” and invite him in. She says, “Not likely, vampire.” And Klaus objects, “I’m a hybrid, dear, half wolf. You and I could be distant relatives.” (And we know no good comes from him calling someone “dear!”) He says he’s looking for another of his kind, and Mary asks what he wants with Hayley (becoming somewhat protective, as much as a grandma safe inside a house that he can’t enter can be). He says that he only wants to remind her about the “importance of family” and to stop her from making any “foolish mistakes.” Mary tells him that Jackson is with her, and they can take care of themselves, and asks him to leave them alone. Klaus suggests (sarcastically) that maybe he should, because Jackson is so very trustworthy and so selfless as to marry her in order to get a werewolf pack that will then become “his own personal army.” (Well, when you put it that way, Klaus!) Klaus changes tact and says that he’d like to congratulate them, figures they are close by tending to their “prenuptial observances” and, in a very threatening way (read: EXTREMELY SEXY) says that he’ll have to go hunt them down on his own. (Mary has the wherewithal to, at least, look a little bit frightened.) Klaus whooshes off to do just that.

originals-recap-212-11

Jackson and Hayley have entered a different section of the woods. Jackson explains that this is where the wolves bury other wolves that died having turned their backs on the pack in some way (by being a traitor, a murderer, etc.). He points to one, sorta marked, grave saying that it belonged to Richard Xavier Dumas who was his grandfather (and Mary’s husband). Dumas was an alpha, and a bit of a trouble-maker from the sounds of it, but he was also “Hell-bent on waging war with vampires” and, when he discovered that Jackson and Hayley’s parents wanted to join the packs and make peace with Marcel . . . well, he didn’t take it well. Dumas went off the deep-end, and killed Hayley’s parents. That’s Jackson’s big, bad secret. And Hayley wants to know why Jackson kept this from her for so long, given that he knows how hard she’s hunted for information regarding her parents. He says that he didn’t know until very recently, when Mary told him. Mary had held on to that secret long enough, and said that it was time it came out. Jackson wanted to be the one to tell her. Hayley fights back tears and says that she doesn’t blame Jackson, she just really hates secrets. Jackson says that that was his big secret, and that if she doesn’t want to tell him hers, she doesn’t have to. He says that whatever it is, it won’t change anything, especially how he feels about her.

Klaus thinks that’s a pretty “romantic sentiment.” He wants to interrupt (like he hasn’t already) to talk to Hayley for a minute. Hayley tells Jackson to run along, she’ll meet him back at Mary’s later.

originals-recap-212-12

Rebekah is playing cards with Cassie, telling her that tonight is the night. She says that once everyone else is asleep, she’ll grab Cassie, but the rest of her plan is interrupted by the Lady Orderly slamming New Girl’s face into a nearby table, demanding to know where she got an apple from. Rebekah wants to go and help, but Cassie discourages it.

originals-recap-212-13

The Orderly slams New Girl’s face a few more times, and Rebekah can’t take it anymore. She charges Lady Orderly, punching her (and realizing how much that actually HURTS a human hand), and getting tackled by the other two Orderlies for her trouble. Lady Orderly calls her a “little bitch” and grabs the fireplace poker, breaking Rebekah’s hand with it. Lady Orderly tells both Rebekah and New Girl that if they take from them, they will take back twice as much – and Lady Orderly snatches a very pretty Celtic-looking pendant with a blue stone from New Girl’s neck. Rebekah looks at her wounded hand, and New Girl asks why she tried to help. Rebekah calls herself a “bloody fool” or perhaps she just likes the idea of “us girls sticking together.”

originals-recap-212-14

Klaus wants to know if Hayley is really considering going through with this “truth-telling idiocy,” and she admits that she’s “kind of on the fence” about the whole thing. Klaus doesn’t seem to hear her on that bit. Klaus goes on a tirade, telling her that she’s not to divulge any family secrets – especially those involving their child. Hayley counters that it isn’t quite that simple, with Finncent growing more powerful and over half of the wolves are still under his power. Klaus says that he doesn’t care, it isn’t worth endangering their daughter. Hayley says that doing this will make things safe for her, which is the entire point, saying that trust is a non-issue if she trusts Jackson. Hayley says, too, that the wolves united under her and Jackson would protect Hope as one of their own. Klaus takes special objection to that, saying that he’s all the protection Hope needs. Hayley says he needs to at least consider this, because they could bring her home if all this works. Klaus says he has considered it, and “deemed it absurd, and in this matter, there is no one above my decree, not even you.” (Oh, Klaus. Have you not yet realized that, unless you want the opposite to happen, YOU DO NOT TELL HAYLEY WHAT TO DO?!) He demands that she tell Jackson the wedding is off. Hayley reminds us of what we already know – she doesn’t take orders from anyone . . . especially him.

originals-recap-212-15

Koleb is reading, as Davina walks in with Aiden right behind her. When he looks up and sees who she’s brought, he makes some snark about no longer having a secret lair. Davina tells Aiden to ignore Koleb and asks if Aiden’s brought everything she asked him to. Aiden dumps out a bunch of stuff that Josh had left at his place, and Koleb makes more snark about that given it is only a comb and a toothbrush – “practically moved in, has he?” – and Davina tells him to shut up. Davina starts to do a locator spell, and Koleb tells her to channel him because it will help things move faster. Davina grabs his hand and starts to chant, Koleb joins in. The graphite shards move to a central point on the map, and Koleb says that he knows where that is – its a “little bodega the witch Lenore used to run before my mother hijacked her body.” Aiden thanks them for the help, and starts to take off after Josh on his own. Davina tells Aiden he can’t go alone. “Technically, he definitely could go alone,” says Koleb, but Davina says that that would be a suicide mission. “Yeah, and what’s more tragic that a suicide mission but a mass suicide mission,” Koleb asks. Aiden says that he’s not leaving Josh with a “nutjob that hates vampires,” and Davina says she’s not either. Koleb makes a face as Davina and Aiden walk out.

originals-recap-212-16

Bitch Lady Orderly is happily swinging New Girl’s necklace, looking pretty happy with herself. Once she makes it to the top of the stairs, the locked door (containing the creepy glass-topped coffin) creaks open getting her attention. Lady Orderly walks toward the open door, and when she gets there and puts her hand on it to open it the rest of the way, she’s sucked inside, screaming, and the door slams behind her.

originals-recap-212-17

Hayley says she is done listening to Klaus. She goes to storm off, but Klaus stops her. She whirls on him and yells that she’s not going to stand there and listen to him order her around where her daughter is concerned. Klaus reminds her that Hope is “our” daughter, but she reminds him that it was his mother that tried to have her killed, and his brother is still after her. Klaus says he’ll deal with Finn, but Hayley wants to know what his plans are after that, because Hope will have all of Klaus’s enemies just because of who her father is. Hayley tells Klaus that he’s the threat to Hope’s safety, because he’s too paranoid to see how this wedding will help her. Hayley says again, that the wolves can protect her. Klaus says that the wolves can’t be trusted. Hayley comes back with “in your paranoid mind, nobody can be trusted” and asks where it ends. Klaus says that there is no end, and reminds her that he killed his own father in order to protect Hope. Hayley asks if that’s really why he killed Ansel, saying that she thought it was because he’s so terrified of letting anyone in (she says this with tears in her eyes, by the way) and when he doesn’t answer, she tells him again that she knows that this wedding will work. She says that they will be able to bring their daughter home, but he has to trust her. Putting his hand on her cheek and looking deeply into her eyes, Klaus says that he does trust Hayley – more than she knows – and then snaps her neck. (How’s that for trust?!) As he holds her unconscious body, he whispers that he doesn’t trust Jackson.

originals-recap-212-18

Marcel wakes to find himself strapped to a chair with ropes soaked in Vervain, and Finncent telling him that he can’t free himself. Finncent has reduced the spell making Marcel Super-Sized Hungry, allowing them to talk. Finncent brings up Cami, and says that most of what the two of them talked about was the troubled relationship she had with Klaus. Finncent says that Klaus confided in her, but nothing that Finncent could use against Klaus, but when Finncent recently talked with Klaus he realized Klaus is hiding something . . . big. Finncent believes this secret to be some sort of weakness, and thinks Marcel knows what it is. Marcel laughs, saying that there’s no way that Klaus would trust him with anything that could be used against him. Finncent says that he thinks Marcel knows something, but Marcel thinks Finncent is a “chump” which gets Marcel some painful witch joojoo. Marcel tells Finncent that he will tell him what he remembers. Marcel says that 200 years ago, he was just a kid, looking around Klaus’s compound, and he found a coffin. When Klaus caught him, he said “that’s my brother Finn. We keep him like that because he is such a bore.” Which earns some more painful witch joojoo.

originals-recap-212-19

New Girl is looking outside the window of the Witch Asylum/Jail. Rebekah wakes up with a start, and fusses at New Girl for trying to give her a heart attack. New Girl asks about NOLA and if it is still beautiful, because it was the last time she saw it. Rebekah tells her that NOLA will be beautiful long after they are both gone, and tells her to go back to her room because she has things to do tonight. New Girl doesn’t leave, but asks Rebekah why she is in this place. Rebekah tells her that she was trying to help her brothers, but her “con artists of a blood relation Kol” betrayed her and got her stuck here. She says something about what she’s going to do to him when she gets a hold of him, and New Girl asks why Rebekah is fighting her own family, saying she should stand beside them. Rebekah tells New Girl that “its complicated” and that it has been for 1,000 years. Rebekah gets up from bed and tells New Girl that she thinks she’s figured a way out, and asks if New Girl wants to come with her. If she does, New Girl is to meet her at the front door in 20. When Rebekah leaves the room, New Girl smirks.

originals-recap-212-20

Jackson is helping Mary with her dishes, as Mary sharpens a wooden stake for Klaus. “Speak the Devil’s name, et cetera, et cetera,” comes Klaus’s voice from the doorway. He asks if Jackson can “come out to play” but Jackson wants to know where Hayley is. Klaus tells him that she’s resting, but he wants to talk. Jackson makes Klaus swear that this is just between the two of them, and when Klaus does, Jackson goes outside. Klaus calls him brave, and then his eyes go all Wolfy, and he whooshes away with Jackson looking a little less than happy. Mary walks out on to her front porch with the stake she sharpened, but doesn’t see either of them.

originals-recap-212-21

Jackson lands, rather heavily, prepared to fight Klaus. But Klaus says that he didn’t come to fight Jackson, he came to execute him. Klaus asks Jackson how he’d like to die.

Jackson looks like he’s already taken a bit of a beating, and Klaus tells him that “most of my victims start screaming about now” and Jackson lunges for him. Klaus tells him he’d rather Jackson go down without any last words, but that if he wants to say something, now would be the time. Jackson tells Klaus to “go to Hell” and calls him a bastard. Klaus goes on a bit of a tangent about the word “bastard” and a bit about Ansel. Jackson asks if that is what this is about – the fact that he got to spend some time with Klaus’s real father. Klaus reminds him that Jackson got to be Ansel’s prized student, learned all Ansel had to teach, but it isn’t doing him a whole Hell of a lot of good right about now and tosses Jackson about a bit more. Jackson says that Klaus could have learned from him, too, but Klaus killed him. That earns Jackson a kick and a few more punches.

originals-recap-212-22

Klaus says that Jackson is worse than even he is, using Hayley’s “best intentions” for his “own self-serving power grab.” Klaus accuses Jackson of wanting to amass an army to win territory, since that’s what wolves do. Jackson lunges, gets knocked down again for his trouble, but tells Klaus that he doesn’t know anything about being a wolf. Klaus admits that he doesn’t. Holding Jackson by the throat, and jabbering on more about not getting to live amongst his own kind, etc, etc, Klaus then throws Jackson against a tree.

originals-recap-212-23

Finncent wakes Marcel at about the same time, saying that he’s convinced now that Marcel knows nothing. As Finncent is deciding how else Marcel can be of use, Koleb walks in. Koleb says that he’d heard Finncent had taken Marcel, and that he owes Marcel a thing or two – and stabs Marcel through the hand with a dagger (leaving it stuck in Marcel’s hand, though). Marcel says that he’s going to kill both of them, and Finncent snaps his neck with magic. Finncent can’t believe that Koleb would show his face right now, but Koleb says that he always chooses the side that is going to win – and since Finn and Lenorsther were acting “a bit daft” he chose to align with Klaus. But, now that Koleb “heard” that Finncent is using Mikael as his own “black magic battery pack” he can see “which way the wind is blowing” he’s ready to give the other 3 siblings what’s coming to them.

originals-recap-212-24

Finncent levels Koleb with some witchy-woo and calls Koleb a “duplicitous beetle.” Koleb says that’s he has proven himself to Finn more than once, and more than Finn ever has, admitting that he’s the one that put Rebekah in another body which has distracted Klaus from Finn, and he’s also been working on a dagger that will put Klaus to sleep, too. Finncent says that he doesn’t want to put Klaus to sleep, he wants Klaus dead. Koleb says he understands, but Finncent is going to need allies and Koleb has Davina in his back pocket. Finncent might just be buying this.

originals-recap-212-25

Rebekah comes looking for Cassie, but finds her bed empty. Rebekah sees, too, that the locked door (with the coffin in it) is open and goes to investigate. She finds the female Orderly on the floor, dead and the coffin empty. Rebekah hears a noise behind her, and spins around to find Cassie – with a new scar on her face like the other Orderlies – behind her, apologizing.

originals-recap-212-26

Cassie reminds Rebekah that she told her there was no escaping this place, and that Rebekah left her no choice but to turn to the Orderlies. Orderlies that we haven’t seen before begin to fan out behind Cassie, threatening Rebekah, as Cassie accuses Rebekah of killing Lady Orderly. Rebekah says that she didn’t kill Lady Orderly, but she won’t miss her, and begins to fight. As Rebekah gets knocked down and Burly Orderly goes after her, New Girl appears in the doorway and blows the Orderlies back from her. She says that they are all so mean, like the “mouse that torments the cat in those cartoons.”

originals-recap-212-27

New Girl says that the Orderlies are the ones that are mean, and throws them all against the walls. Cassie looks scared, New Girl approaches her saying that the others were just “ignorant bullies” but Cassie is smart and strong, but she still betrayed someone that called her “friend” and grabs her face. Cassie starts to bleed from the eyes (dead Lady Orderly had blood dripping down her face) and New Girl drops her to the floor, dead. New Girl helps Rebekah up, saying that she doesn’t like traitors and heals Rebekah’s hand. Rebekah asks her how she did that, but New Girl turns on her heel, and just smiles.

originals-recap-212-28

Out in the woods, Jackson seems to be trying to crawl away. Klaus says that he’s only doing what he needs to do to protect his family – and Hayley is part of that family now. Klaus says that Jackson is using her, which Jackson denies, and Klaus tells him to just admit the truth and Klaus will end him quickly. Jackson says that he loves Hayley and he’ll fight for her. (Yeah, that’s why you’re trying to crawl away, is it, Jackson? Certainly looks like fighting to me.) And in his crawling, he finds a branch that he stabs Klaus with. It doesn’t do much more that tick Klaus off, though. Klaus pulls out the branch, and give Jackson the sideways compliment of having more fight in him that Klaus had originally thought. Klaus is about to stab Jackson in the throat with the same branch, and Jackson tries one last ditch effort to save himself, saying that Klaus once told him that the wolves were all one family and if Klaus kills him now, Klaus needs to promise to help Hayley set their people free. Klaus pauses . . . and Hayley comes at him like some sort of whirling dervish, pummeling him to the ground. Sitting on his chest and punching him in the face, until he stops her, we’re reminded that Hayley can be a force to be reckoned with sometimes.

originals-recap-212-29

When Klaus throws her off, she tells him that she trusts Jackson and he’s not going to kill Jackson unless he wants to kill her first. Klaus asks he if Jackson is really worth her trust. When she says that he is, Klaus considers for a second, calling her stubborn (and my favorite nickname “Little Wolf”) and saying that maybe her and Jackson were meant for each other. Klaus gets right up in her face (*swoon*) and tells her “Go on, then. Tell him. Have your wedding. Save your wolves, but you mark my words. *turns to Jackson* If you ever betry her, I will find you, and I will deposit your head on the end of a spike. Perhaps I’ll leave it in your grandmother’s garden.” And then he whooshes away.

originals-recap-212-30

Finncent tells Koleb that Klaus already knows that Koleb trapped Rebekah, and wonders why he hasn’t tracked Koleb down to torture her whereabouts from him yet. Koleb says that he’s smart enough not to be found. Finncent finds that funny, but continues thinking aloud, remarking that Elijah also knows that Rebekah is missing and yet, Elijah hasn’t made an appearance either. Finncent admits that he’s been searching, in vain, for Elijah which means that Elijah is doing something to remain hidden and Elijah doesn’t hide from anyone, so that must mean that Elijah is hiding something. Koleb says that Finncent sounds like “Sherlock Holmes after one too many tequilas.” Finncent doesn’t take too kindly to that, saying that he knows about Koleb’s friends sneaking around in the back. Koleb looks over his shoulder . . .

originals-recap-212-31

. . . and we see Davina and Aiden sneaking around using their cellphones as flashlights, and as soon as Aiden’s beam lands on Josh, Finncent attacks Koleb with magic. Koleb goes down to his knees, and Finncent says that he wants to send a message to “your little girlfriend.” Right about then, Josh sits up, gasping. Aiden asks him if he’s alright, but Josh vamps out. The other vampires start to stir as well. When Aiden and Davina try to run, they find Josh standing in their way – not caring that he’s about to rip his best friend and his boyfriend apart. Aiden tries holding Josh off for a second, then snaps Josh’s neck, holding him for just a second before yelling for Davina to come on.

originals-recap-212-32

The front doors of the Witch Asylum/Jail burst open, and it seems New Girl has done it. Rebekah follows her out onto the steps, finally putting together that she’s the “all-powerful girl in the coffin” but wondering why she didn’t just tell Rebekah who she was. New Girl says she’s been asleep for a century, and wanted to get to know Rebekah, know what she was really like – and Rebekah didn’t disappoint her. New Girl tells Rebekah she’s got a spark in her, that she’s “willful, also kind” and that she isn’t “half as bad as our brothers.” (I KNEW IT!) Rebekah looks puzzled, and New Girl admits that they have met before. The Christmas party in 1914.

originals-recap-212-33

When Rebekah goes to meet her brothers (and Marcel) on the stairs, she stops and speaks to a blonde – the one that Rebekah tells she can do better than Kol. New Girl tells Rebekah that she knows who she really is. Rebekah nods and says that she’s the girl from her nightmare, and whispers “Freya?” Freya nods, and beckons Rebekah to follow her. When they get to the gate, Freya chants and the doll head that faces inward and seems to be part of the spell trapping them there spins back around to face outward. I notice, then, that Freya has her necklace back on, too.

originals-recap-212-34

Freya says that she’s finally free, and tells Rebekah to tell their brothers that “I’ll be coming to see them soon, and I expect nothing less than their best behavior.” Freya blasts the gate off its hinges, and turns left out of the Asylum’s lot. Rebekah watches her leave.

originals-recap-212-35

Koleb stands, and Finncent asks if he’s done with this ruse. Koleb bolts from the room, to where Davina and Aiden were moments before. He comes face-to-face with the vampires, and Finncent knocks them all down with a swipe of his hand. Finncent says that he’s noticed that Davina took one of his prisoners. Koleb says he didn’t come there to fight, that Davina tricked him into being a distraction. Finncent pulls Koleb (who’s taller than him, never noticed that before) into a forced forehead-to-forehead embrace and says that they were given a gift – rebirth, without the confines of being vampries – and Koleb couldn’t even give the small “pittance” that was asked in return. Koleb realizes Finncent is still quite angry with him, and begs for another chance. Finncent says that he doesn’t deserve one, so he’s going to give him the one thing Koleb fears most . . . death. Laying hands on his brother, Finncent starts to chant and Koleb screams. “I curse you to this body, unable to jump to another. Over the next few days, I want you to contemplate what’s to come – a meaningless, lonely death and the darkness to follow,” Finncent says, releasing Koleb and telling him that the clock starts now, and that he really needs to say his goodbyes.

(Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! But, if this means we get Nathaniel back somehow, I could be alright with this!) Finncent tells him to go, that he will not miss him.

originals-recap-212-36

In the Bayou, there are some twinkle lights up on the dock, and Mary’s patching up Jackson. She tells him that he’ll feel better in the morning. Hayley apologizes to Mary, who asks her what she’s apologizing for – knowing a monster, or having baggage? Mary is proud of Hayley for fighting for Jackson (HIS NAME IS NOT JACK, QUIT TRYING TO MAKE IT SO!) saying that a lot of married folk don’t get that far. Jackson wonders to Hayley why Klaus didn’t just kill him.

Hayley says that he was just afraid of trusting anyone, and that not trusting Jackson would probably lead to worse things – like being alone, surrounded by enemies. She takes Jackson’s hand, and tells him that she wants to tell him a story, “about a beautiful baby girl . . . and the parents who swore they would die to protect her.”

Back in the City, Klaus is on the phone with Elijah. He says that the wedding will work for them, the wolves will become an asset to their family. Elijah says that’s all fine and good, if Klaus is willing to trust Jackson with their secret.  Elijah is “a little surprised” that Klaus does. Klaus admits that trusting Jackson is just a “means to an end” because if he had actually killed Jackson, Hayley would have turned against him – and Elijah should have seen the way Hayley defended him. (Elijah looks both proud and sad at that) Klaus admits that once the ceremony is final, and the wolves are changed for the better, Jackson’s future becomes a little less certain. Elijah looks at his phone after Klaus hangs up.

From behind Klaus comes “Hello, Nik” and Rebekah has found him. Klaus looks puzzled at first. “I don’t suppose you imagines that always and forever would lead us to this,” Rebekah says and Klaus smiles, it dawning on his who stands before him. “Rebekah,” he says, his smile broadening. She tells him that he won’t believe the week she’s had.

Finncent sits with Marcel, who’s still tied to the chair. Finncent holds the dagger that Koleb left in Marcel’s hand, and is glad when Marcel wakes. He has one more question for his captive. Marcel says ok, release my Merry Men, and he’ll tell Finncent whatever it is that he wants to know. Finncent calls Marcel “selfless” and says that they’ve already established that Marcel knows nothing, but . . . the belief among the werewolves is that Marcel was the last one to see Klaus’s baby alive. Apparently, the wolves believe Marcel had the baby’s corpse. Finncent asks Marcel, point blank, to tell him how the baby died. Marcel looks confused, and Finncent surmises that Marcel doesn’t remember, because he was compelled to forget. Finncent finds it curious that Klaus would compell the one vampire he holds in such high esteem. What would make Klaus do that, he wonders. And the lightbulb goes off. “She’s still alive . . . and now you and your vampires are gonna help me find her,” he says.

Wow. Took you long enough, Finn. Geez. Guess Esther was always the smart one, and you don’t learn much licking someone else’s boots, huh?

So, how long do you think it will be before Freya makes her presence known? How is she still alive? How long before they figure out how to put Rebekah back in her own body, or will they? How will Jackson take the news that Hayley will forever be linked with Klaus, but not for the reasons he thought? Is Koleb going to die? How do you think this wedding is going to go? Will Finncent find out about it?  Will Marcel be able to get free of Finncent to tell Klaus of his brother’s suspicions?  When Josh wakes up, will he still want to eat Aiden and Davina?

Until next week, fang fans!!  And don’t forget to share your theories with me, and what you think this version of Rebekah should be called!
