The Originals 2.04 “Live and Let Die” Recap {{SPOILERS}}

So, the epic family dinner from Hell ended with Cassther becoming just Cassie, and Lenore becoming Lenorsther.  Just a little body-jumping going on for the deceased (and incredibly pesky) Momma Original, and a little vampire-training going on for Gia with Elijah.  Or as she calls him, “Captain Condescention!”

This week’s episode is called “Live and Let Die” which is an awesome Beatles song, and proves to be a bit of a jaw dropper.  And a bit of an oh-my-god-if-they-do-that-to-him-I’ll-die/stop-watching inducing episode as well.

Klaus brings us to to speed this week, with a recap of “it was our home once” and “I want it back” and that whole “Momma just won’t stay dead” speech.  Then Hayley wearing her shocked (but not really) face as Esther jumped into Lenore (who is now marked on her right hand by the spell Lenore was doing at the time Esther jumped).  Then we see Lenorsther offering to “undo everything that has been done” to both Klaus and Elijah (she offered the same to Hayley, too).  Then Finncent re-introducing himself as Finn to Elijah and Klaus at dinner.  We’re reminded that Kol is indeed back, as Caleb, and is making nice with a certain teenaged witch (no, not Sabrina, DAVINA!).  We see the attempted attack on Davina at Rousseu’s, where Mikael showed us just how viscious he is (in case we forgot, NOT LIKELY), and Koleb showed us just how much of a wuss he is by his hiding behind the bar (and later not telling Momma that Father is around).  The recap comes to an end with Finncent asking Lenorsther what her next move is, and she tells him she’s going to work from the outside of New Orleans in – by starting something with Marcel’s new “clan” of vampires, it seems.

Now, down to business!

originals-recap-204-2

Gia looks like she’s either sleeping, or meditating, and then she catches a dart, by the point, inches from her nose, and we realize the newbie vamp is showing off. And earning $100 for her trouble! Josh is studying his phone, on some dating site (someone said Tinder? I’m not familiar!!) and checking out some dude’s profile.  Marcel walks up and asks him if he’s found any prospects.  Josh admits that there’s this one guy, that they have been messaging back and forth, and he thinks he might like him, “like, really, like him.”  So what’s the problem?  Wellllllllll, Josh left a few things off his profile, “what has two thumbs and drinks blood?  Oh, right, this guy!”  (I LOVE Josh’s lines!  He needs more, Julie!!!  MORE JOSH!!!!)  Marcel chuckles at Josh, and then CRASSSSSSHHHHHHH a dead vampire comes through the window, followed by Oliver and a bunch of wolves.

originals-recap-204-3

Gia gets pissed, challenges the wolves, saying they’ve done nothing wrong.  Dude that Josh was oggling on Tinder comes out from behind the pack, and tells Marcel that the vampires staying out of the Quarter isn’t good enough anymore.  Josh is appropriately slack jawed.  And, oh dear, Marcel is preaching again . . . something about the “proud werewolves” being brought to heel by the witches and how he hopes the moonlight rings are worth it.  Two wolves attack, one biting Vampire Number Three, and one that Josh just pushes away like nothing.  This has been a warning, brought to you by High Cheekbones Guy:  you vampires need to be out of here when we come back!

originals-recap-204-4

While the title screen fades away, Cami says “this is the city of death” and  she talks about the disasters that plague New Orleans, as well as the violence that abounds there.  We’re treated to the city in full Day of the Dead/Hallowe’en regalia, and we realize she’s having somewhat of a therapy session with Finncent (remember, he’s her new professor) and she’s talking about how New Orleans has turned everything into a party so the people there don’t have to face the reality that they’re all going to die.  (Well, not all of them, Cami.)  Finncent asks her some questions and she fires back with more (just like the psychologist she wants to be). Finncent says she’s dodging his questions, and he doesn’t think patients will open up to her, if she’s not open herself.  She gets pissy and asks him what he wants her to open up about, her dead brother?  Her dead uncle?  Finncent says that, no, he wants her to talk about the living.  Does she have friends?  A boyfriend?  Cami doesn’t respond and Finncent seems surprised that there isn’t anyone.  Cami confesses that she’s attracted to the wrong kind of guy, and that she knows it’s cliche. Finncent tells her to start there, that that’s her tale to tell.

originals-recap-204-5

She starts to talk about “this one guy” (Marcel) who she thinks she was his “rebound girl” and says that he was “unique” in ways that meant she really needed to stay away from him.  After saying that they just weren’t compatible, Finncent presses her to tell him if there was another.  Yep, there was this “other guy” (Klaus) who was “also unique” and that nothing ever happened between them, but he just got to her somehow.  She tells a bit about Klaus’s “manipulative mother, abusive father” and how he was goodness underneath all the bad.  Finncent suggests that perhaps Cami wanted to save him and asks what happened.  “Some people don’t want to be saved,” she says.

originals-recap-204-6

Elijah bursts into the compound, barking for Hayley and Klaus.  Hayley appears, and snarks at him about being so loud when everyone there has supernatural hearing.  He asks her where Klaus is and she tells him, rather snottily, that she isn’t Klaus’s calendar or his wife, so she doesn’t know.  Elijah tears into her about being glib when the city is under attack by wolves and witches doing his mother’s bidding, and that he doesn’t have time for her “particular brand of . . . sass.”  (Omg. That was funny!)  “If only there was a magical device” that he could use, she says, tossing her cell phone around, and storms off saying she doesn’t know where he is, but he isn’t here.  Then she turns on him, to threaten him if he should hurt any of those “beasts” that are working under Esther’s control.  “You’re bitch mother will be the least of your worries,” she says.

Back to the party!!!!

originals-recap-204-7

Cami’s fighting her way down the crowded street, and she’s finally gotten ahold of someone on the phone.  Its Davina, whose standing on the front porch of a very rustic-looking cabin, apologizing for not answering and making Cami worry.  She’s watching Mikael train with a staff, and tells Cami that things are complicated.  Davina says that she’s fine, and that she’ll be back soon, thanks her for calling, and pretty much hangs up on Cami.

originals-recap-204-8

Cami doesn’t know it, yet, but she has a hybrid lurker in the form of Klaus coming up behind her.  He calls Davina’s hanging up “rather rude” and Cami spins to face him, shocked and a little scared.  “Don’t do that crooked smile thing,” she says (and I say DO IT DO IT DO IT!!). And says that she hasn’t seen him in months and then he pops up right behind her.  She asks him what he wants, and he says he’s trying to track down “and deal with” a rather long list of people, but at the top of it is a run away witch.  Cami says that maybe Davina deosn’t want to be found, and Klaus says that’s probably true given who she currently has to deal with.  Cami apparently hadn’t heard that Davina had brought Mikael back, and reacts with the expected shock.  And Cami knows that Klaus overheard their convo, but Davina didn’t say where she was.  But, Klaus, with that supernatural hearing, heard Cicadas, Turns (a type of bird), and church bells, so he knows right where she is – a cabin that her family owns out in another Parish, close to a chapel.  Cami asks what the plan is, and Klaus gives her two options:  the first, Cami reasons with Davina, the second he delivers with that crooked smile and says she wouldn’t like very much.  She says “fine” and they disappear into the crowd, heading for the cabin.

originals-recap-204-9

Lenorsther and Koleb are doing a spell, looks like a locator spell based on the map their hands are over, and Koleb is clearly not all that interested . . . as he’s texting instead of chanting/concentrating.  She asks if he’s heard from Davina, and he hints that its only a “matter of time” before she succumbs to “this face.”  (Hahahahaha)  Lenorsther sites his lack of progress as proof that that isn’t working too well.  (But, since he’s texting someone I’m inclined to think he already knows where she is, and is hiding that information from Mommy Dearest, too.)  She pulls some petals off a rose into a bowl of water, and pokes her thumb to drop blood into the water as well.  They try again, and when Lenorsther lifts the bowl as an offering and begins to chant, the bowl explodes.  It seems Davina is shielding herself quite well.  Koleb does his best “well, then it isn’t my fault” thing and Finncent appears just in time to tell him that, yes, indeed, it is his fault.  He had one job and he’s failing. Koleb counters that Finncent hasn’t gotten anything out of Cami yet, either.  And they bicker so awesomely after that. Until Mom shuts them up.

Lenorsther brings them back to task, by directing Koleb to find Davina and bring her back the White Oak Stake.

originals-recap-204-10

Davina prods at Mikael a little, saying that the werewolf bites don’t look good.  Mikael says that werewolf venom can be fought off, and he’s doing it.  She snarks about his quip being “some sort of Viking bumper sticker” and he wants to know when they will stop hiding like cowards. (They really need to work on their communication skills . . . they’re not getting anywhere like this.)  Davina says because Elijah saw him, they’re staying here until she finds out how to unlink her friends from Klaus.  Mikael wants confrontation, says it is inevitable, and tells Davina that her fear will bring them down.  She says that she’s not afraid.  He tells her that she’s weak, she counters that she’s still the one in charge here.  And she tells him that her bracelet isn’t going to fall off again – she’s put some sort of spell on it.  He reminds her that her magic didn’t protect her much when the wolves attacked, magic can only fight half of your battles, he says.  She orders him to teach her how to fight, and he smirks.

originals-recap-204-11

Gia is telling Marcel that she and the others don’t want to run.  Marcel says there are times to run, and times to fight, and this is a time to run. Gia wants to fight, she wants to learn how, reminding Marcel that he’s fought the wolves off before. Josh chimes in that they can’t learn to fight off “super wolves” in one day.  Someone blurs by, breaking the necks of two vampires.  Marcel looks annoyed. Its Elijah!  Lesson One:  Always be on your guard.  Gia and Marcel just kinda look at him, as the show fades to commercials.

originals-recap-204-12

Finncent is talking to Mystery Date Site Dude and Oliver in the cemetery. He wants to know how the get-out-of-dodge message went over for with Marcel’s vampires.  Oliver assures him that they will be gone by tomorrow.  Finncent isn’t so sure, and turns to a lackey, to ask for reinforcements.  A whole bunch of kids appear, and Finncent tells them about tonight’s Blood Moon and what it means.  Each of these kids (and some adults, too) carry the werewolf gene.  He wants each of them to kill tonight, so that they become full-fledged werewolves.  Mystery Date Site Dude (his name is Aiden) objects – righteously.  Finncent pulls the “with us or against us” card, and leads the children away…and that line just keeps on going.

originals-recap-204-13

Mikael is carving on one of the sticks he’s been sparring with, Davina asks him what the symbol is.  Mikael explains that it is the crest of his clan, to remind him that his ancestors are always with him, as he goes into battle.  (One must note here, Davina’s rookie mistake of opting for “cute boots” over “practical boots” when out in the woods, sparring with the Original Father.)  He throws the stick at her, and she whines that she wasn’t ready.

originals-recap-204-14

Much like Elijah and the newbie vampires, Mikael calls this the “first lesson:  always be on your guard.”  Davina whines a little more, and Mikael tells her what his father would have done in the face of that. Davina calls his father a “jerkwad” and Mikael counters that mothers are for love and fathers are for strength and attacks. Davina compares parental failings, and they spar some more.  She seems to be holding her own (sorta) and he gives her some pointers until he strikes at her feet ankle and she falls.  Without sympathy, he tells her to get up. She eventually struggles to her feet.

originals-recap-204-15

Cami is sitting in the bar.  Klaus comes in “Wait in the car, you said. I’ll be right back, you said,” he says, as she swallows some bourbon. She doesn’t want to go on his little “revenge” trip.  Cami challenges that Klaus could’ve eavesdropped on her convo with Davina and gone on his way, she thinks that he wants her to play some sort of role in all this, and wants to know what it is.  She thinks she’s there because he wants someone to hear “his side” in all this, and he doesn’t deny it.  Cami turns therapist on him as he sits down with her to drink.

originals-recap-204-16

Davina’s ankle is looking pretty ugly, and she calls Koleb.  He asks where she is, and if she’s alright.  She’ll text him the address, and a list of things that he can bring her.  He’ll be right there.

originals-recap-204-17

“As a devout feminist, I refuse to say you hit like a girl,” Elijah says as Gia throws a punch.  She wants to be outside “with the nice teacher” and Elijah explains that she’s his responsibility.  He compares fighting to music in rhythm, pattern, meter, etc.  And tells her to try again. He blocks everything she throws at him – sexual tension rising – and then begins whooshing as she attacks.  He pauses to make some more music references, she attacks again, pinning him up against the wall this time.  He then asks her which she’s going to attack, the head or the heart, and she wonders if she can do it.  He has faith, and asks again.  She slams her fist into his chest cavity and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THE TENSION!!!!

originals-recap-204-18

Which is quickly broken up by . . . Hayley barging in.  *cringes* And she brought Aiden with her, so Gia starts to attack.  Hayley wants Elijah to hear what Aiden has to say.  As the dramatic music builds, Aiden says “I need your help.”

Aiden has relayed the issue, and Elijah is even surprised by Finncent’s ass-ness.  Hayley reiterates that they are “just kids” knowing that that’s Marcel’s Achilles heel.  Hayley wants Marcel to use his knowledge of the Quarter to get the kids out.  Marcel doesn’t seem to think there’s any escape.  Oliver tells him that there’s still some wolves hiding in the Bayou, that didn’t take rings, that will take them.  Marcel calls those wolves that did “sell outs” and wonders why the wolves – that have been fighting him for ages – are deciding to trust him now.  Aiden confesses that one of the “new recruits” is his little brother.  You can see this news getting under Marcel’s skin.  Elijah speaks up, and asks what Aiden needs.

originals-recap-204-19

Klaus is opening up to Cami.  He tells her that his mother is “far less savage” than his father, she just wants to change them out of their bodies into new ones, to reunite the family into a “coven of extremely dysfunctional witches.”  Klaus is worried that if he kills her, she’ll just jump into another body.  If he manages to stop her from doing that, she’ll just haunt him he fears.  Mikael is his focus and the White Oak Stake.  “He needs to die first,” he says.  Cami wonders how he’s going to manage that, unarmed, and Klaus produces Tunde’s knife from his jacket pocket.  “The Knife of Ludacris Torment” Cami calls it.  Klaus says that his parents have always made him feel weak and afraid, and he’s killed them once already, he’s ready to do it again.  He goes to leave, Cami stops him, and asks what he’s fighting for.  He doesn’t answer, and she tells him to ask her to dance. (Um. OK!)  She tells him that there are so many other things in life than hurt, and lists a lame few. (Ok, the cold beer wasn’t lame.)  They start to awkwardly dance.  She wants him to see the good things, too.  She tells him “there’s no real peace in revenge” and he goes to spin her and whooshes away.

originals-recap-204-20

Koleb treats Davina’s ankle with some stinky sludge, and it takes all the pain away, but she’s still wobbly on her feet.  Koleb notices all the magic notes around, and asks her what she’s up to.  After a bit of flirting, Davina clams up and won’t say.  Koleb tells her that its fine, she can tell him when she’s ready.  He tucks a lock of her hair behind her ear, and the scene fades.

originals-recap-204-21

Aiden is holding counsel with Elijah, Marcel, Hayley and Josh (Oliver’s hanging about, too) telling them where the kids are being held (City of the Dead) and that they will stay there until Aiden and Oliver are to bring them through the Quarter, toward Saint Anne’s.  Finncent is apparently holding a meeting with some humans who have been resistant to his leadership.  Elijah concludes that he’s going to use the children to squash any resistance that remains (Thought we already knew this?) byt activating their curse.  “Two birds, one bloodbath,” says Aiden.  Elijah says that Adien and Oliver should escort the children, and the rest of them will handle everything else.  Oliver objects, and Mr Awesome Scruff puts him in his place.

originals-recap-204-22

Davina’s sleeping, and Koleb is snooping.  He looks into a room, full of candles, and quietly enters.  There are notes, and what looks like pages from Esther’s grimorie all over the place.  He looks around, opens a drawer or two, and finds what he’s looking for on the second try.  The White Oak Stake.  He goes to pick it up, and HELLO MIKAEL!  They struggle, and Koleb confesses that he knows the spell that will unbind Mikael from the bracelet.  As long as Mikael doesn’t hurt Koleb, he’ll do the spell and free the Original Father.  Mikael considers, and lets go.  “I take it we have a deal,” Koleb says as we go to commercials.  (I freaking HATE commercials, guys!!)

originals-recap-204-23

Day of the Dead festivities are in full swing in the Quarter.  Aiden is leading the children through the crowds, Oliver’s in the back of the group.  Aiden’s looking around and sees Gia nearby, who “accidently” spills her drink on one of Finncent’s minions and starts a fight.  Marcel snaps his neck, and the chase is on.  Aiden yells at Oliver to take the kids, tells the other minions to split up and find Gia and Marcel.  Aiden runs off, and Oliver leads the children.  He sees someone ahead of him that he doesn’t like, and then Hayley appears telling him to come with her.  Oliver and the kids run in her direction, through Rousseu’s and into a hidden passage off the kitchen.  Josh ushers everyone through.  Hayley goes with them, and Oliver watches the passage door close.  Then he appears to be walking along the docks.

The Suited One hears Oliver approach (they’re in some sort of parking garage), and asks “Where are they?”  Oliver says they are right behind him.

Hayley and Josh are holding flashlights, walking through a large tunnel.  They get to the end and its blocked with a metal grate.  Josh sorta thinks for a moment and then just pushes it off.  (Vampire strength comes in handy!)  Gia greets them as they emerge, and tells them Marcel is getting the get away car.  Hayley tells them that they’re being too loud.

originals-recap-204-24

Back with Ollie and Mr Awesome Scruff, they hear a noise.  Werewolves surround them – and there’s a LOT of them – and they challenge.  Oliver laughs and asks them if they really think he and Elijah were dumb enough to bring the kids here.  Apparently, they thought so.  Elijah “apologizes” and says the kids are “elsewhere” and that leaves them here with him.  One of the wolves (he shall henceforth be Bearded Dude) says that that’s not why they’re there.  “The witch wants you,” he says to Elijah.  While taking of his suit coat, Elijah explains that he told a good friend (Hayley) that he wouldn’t hurt any of their kind, and he sincerely wants to keep that promise, and if they leave right now, he’ll honor that promise.  (Damn, he’s sexy when he’s threatening people!!)  Bearded Dude crouches to fight, and Elijah gives Oliver the option to leave. “Either I’m in, or I’m out, right?” says Oliver, and stays.  Elijah tosses his jacket to the side . . . and . . .

originals-recap-204-25

Josh is leading the children, and they run into the back of an ambulance, with Marcel at the helm.  Aiden greets his brother, and tells him to go with the rest of them.  He and Josh exchange a look.  Aiden thanks everyone and Hayley says that they are all fighting the same fight.  Marcel and Hayley drive off, and Aiden and his brother look at each other longingly as they do.

originals-recap-204-26

Meanwhile, Mr Awesome Scruff and Oliver have kicked some major ass, with Oliver even ripping off someone’s arm.  The fight seems to be over, both men seemingly surprised that there weren’t more people to fight.  And then Elijah crumples to the ground in pain.  Finncent is doing that miniature-violin-playing-my-heart-bleeds-for-you thing again.  Oliver isn’t effected and even tries to come to Elijah’s aide (points for Ollie, there.  I expected him to run.)  and gets thrown against a car for his trouble.  (I feel bad for the person trying to explain the person-shaped dent in their car to an insurance adjuster.)  Elijah attacks Finncent while he’s distracted and Lenorsther attacks Elijah from behind with a stake, that she then makes sure it twists while still in his chest while Ollie watches.  Elijah is down for the count.

originals-recap-204-27

Davina is still asleep, Koleb is reaching over her.  Davina startles, and Koleb makes like he was just grabbing her phone since it was going nuts beside her.  He asks “who’s Cami?” as she looks at her phone and sees a text from Cami:  HE KNOWS WHERE YOU ARE.  Davina tells Koleb to come with her, and drags him with her.  (She’s walking fine, now, by the way.)

originals-recap-204-28

Klaus shuts the door on his SUV and heads toward the cabin.  He looks in the window and the picture wobbles.  Koleb and Davina are doing magic (I think to make it look like no one is home) and Klaus walks the length of the porch and looks in another window.  On the other side of it is his father staring back at him with the White Oak Stake in his hand, ready to fight, but Klaus can’t see him.  Klaus heads back to his car, and then changes direction to look around some more.  He finds the staff Mikael carved the family crest in, and then heaves it through the cabin window.

originals-recap-204-29

Davina hits her head when she falls back, but Koleb is alright.  Klaus challenges Davina to send out his father.  Koleb looks at Davina’s bracelet,  and goes toward it, and Mikael attacks him from behind demanding to be released.  When Mikael throws him down, Koleb goes back to unconscious Davina and begins the spell to release Mikael from her control.  There’s a woosh, and then the cabin door creaks open.  Mikael comes out, and Klaus tells Mikael he’s ready to stand over Mikael’s burning corpse . . . again and enjoy it more.  “I’ve traveled all the way back from Hell, for this moment,” Mikael says.  “Well, then I don’t need to keep you waiting,” comes Klaus’s response and they fight.  They each get the better of the other a few times, ending with Mikael stabbing Klaus with the White Oak Stake (in the shoulder, were you really worried?), and Klaus plunging Papa Tunde’s knife into Mikael’s chest.  The knife works its way in, and Klaus pulls the White Oak Stake from his shoulder.

originals-recap-204-30

Klaus stands over Mikael as his father seems to be dealing with whatever torment Tunde’s blade is showing him, and seems to consider ending it right then and there.  But, Cami runs up demanding to know where Davina is. Klaus says she’s fine, she might have a headache, but she’s fine.  Cami is out of breath, and Klaus says that if running to Davina’s aid makes Cami die of a heart attack, he may have to kill Davina just on principal.  (Hahahaha)  Cami complains that he left her at the bar and the lengths that she had to go to, to get to the cabin.  Her tirade ends with her making Klaus promise that he won’t hurt Davina, and Klaus does.  Cami hugs him, and Klaus doesn’t seem to resist this time.  Cami then notices Mikael on the ground and asks if he’s dead.  Klaus says he took Cami’s advice and, instead of killing him, he’s going to leave Mikael in the torment produced my Tunde’s blade.  Cami looks a little horrified that Klaus took her advice that way.

originals-recap-204-31

Josh is reading a text “Tonight, 10pm, Baywater Tavern” and appears to be sitting at a bar.  Aiden comes in and sits next to him.  “Didn’t think you were gonna show…” Josh says.  “Didn’t think you were a vampire,” Aiden responds.  And Josh makes a crack about Aiden being the leader of a werewolf army, and then stops the awkward by saying that Aiden’s pictures on Tinder don’t do him justice.  “Way hotter in person.  You know, when you’re not . . . murdering people.”  Aiden says he shouldn’t have come, Josh agrees and asks him why he did.  Turns out Aiden’s lonely.  Josh wants to pretend for the night that they aren’t what they are, and to just have a good time. Aiden agrees. (Its really freaking adorable!)

originals-recap-204-32

Hayley and Marcel are sharing bourbon and talking about how they never thought they’d be teamed up.  Marcel tells her that she’s a vampire, too, now, and tells her to say “never say never, cuz never ain’t that long.”  He says they did the right thing today, but what they did is going to cause more trouble between “your people and mine.”  (Are you accepting her, or putting her off, Marcel?)  Hayley calls Gia “baby vamp” and tells her things always get worse before they get better and takes her a drink.  Gia’s concerned about Elijah, and Hayley admits that she’s concerned about a lot of things regarding Elijah, but says that he can take care of himself.  (That sounds like DUN DUN DUN to me!!!)

originals-recap-204-33

Klaus rather roughly dumps Mikael in the back of his SUV and actually looks a little troubled about the whole thing.  Mikael gasps, and manages to remove Tunde’s blade from his chest. (UH OH!)

originals-recap-204-34

And, sure enough, the next scene is Elijah in chains in a tomb.  Lenorsther is with him, saying she only wants them to be a family again.  But, in order for that to happen, “you must be purified.”  (ISWEARTOGODHEHADBETTERSTAYAVAMPIREJULIEPLEC!)  And in a quiet moment we hear the background song sing “the worst is yet to come. We’re lucky if we ever see the sun” and Lenorsther leaves Elijah.

Holy COW!!!  Do you think someone will rescue him before she rids him of his vampire nature?  Is that what she tends to purify him of?  And what’s gonna happen now that Mikael is free and not writhing in Tunde Blade torment?  Did Koleb run off, or will he pretend to be knocked out again?  What are your thoughts?  Hit me up in the comments!!
