The Originals Post Mortem: Julie Plec on What’s to Come

Julie Plec talks to THR, Zap2It, E!Online and TV Guide about last night’s shocking death, and what’s to come on The Originals when the show returns from hiatus, February 25th.

Via THR:

When the writers first arced out the Harvest, Sophie’s demise wasn’t part of the original plan.

“We didn’t know the specifics of it. We knew there would have to be a pretty horrible, hideous consequence. A lot of Sophie at first [was] to lead the witch revolution; she kept coming against the wall and failing and didn’t — when all is said and done — have the right faith in herself to carry it out,” Plec elaborated. “When we realized the ultimate consequence of that would be death, that’s when we made the decision to go down that road.”

Sophie wasn’t the only one to end the episode in a bad place. Thanks to the resurrected witches seeking revenge, both Klaus and Rebekah are in deep trouble.

“The next episode is actually really crazy. It’s new for us, and it’s something we’ve never done before,” Plec says. “We go outside of the Quarter and we put Rebekah and Klaus into a trapped situation in a creepy, horrible, messed up sanitarium from back in the day, and Genevieve, working between the two of them, enacts her revenge. We’ll learn why Genevieve’s revenge is so specifically targeted towards Rebekah and what exactly she’s going to do to make Rebekah suffer as much as possible.”

New Love Triangle: Expect to see Jackson, the werewolf Hayley is kind of, sort of in an arranged marriage with, to pop back up. Before Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) enacted the curse on the Crescent wolves, Hayley and Jackson’s families were hoping to unite the werewolves through their marriage. (And yes, Jackson has been the wolf protecting Hayley throughout the season.)

“It’s a full moon in this particular episode, and there won’t be another full moon for a few more episodes, so this is our first taste of the crescent wolves,” Plec says. “With luck and schedules and all those things in our favor, we’ll be able to have a nice good story with them.”

Elijah? Not so crazy about the idea of Hayley breaking the werewolf curse if it means Jackson sticking around.

Any big flashback episodes coming up?
Plec: There’s a lot more story to be told about what happened in 1919. Once the Olympics are over and we come back, we definitely get a little flavor for New Orleans at the end of the influenza epidemic in 1919. Then the episode after that we dig into what happens during that period when we’ll see if Mikael (Sebastian Roche) “got the message” about somebody looking for him in the French Quarter.
